Zaporizhzhia is the fifth largest city in Ukraine with a population of nearly 782,000 people, including 153,000 internally displaced people. The city covers an area of 334 km2 and is located on both banks of the Dnipro River, home to Khortytsia Island — the largest river island in Ukraine (23.5 km2). It is a major industrial centre with over 290 enterprises in metallurgy, mechanical engineering, and energy. Zaporizhzhia functions as a key transport and logistics hub for central, eastern, and southern Ukraine. In 2024, the city’s transparency score rose from 36.7% to 63%, placing it 12th among 100 Ukrainian municipalities — the highest improvement recorded. The 2024 annual budget of the municipality amounts to UAH 8.47 billion.
