The body of the dead Yevhenii Serhiyovych Matvieiev, Mayor of Dniprorudne, was returned to Ukraine. He was in captivity for almost three years.
Yevhenii Matvieiev was elected as a city mayor three times. In this capacity, he faced the full-scale russian invasion of Ukraine and remained with residents during the occupation.
Since the full-scale invasion, 55 local government officials have been abducted. Three local government officials are still held in russian captivity, and the Association of Ukrainian Cities jointly with security services and international partners continues to fight to release them.
The Association of Ukrainian Cities expresses its sincere condolences to the family and friends, and the municipality of Dniprorudne in Zaporizhzhia region.
The funeral service for Yevhenii Matvieiev will take place on 05 December 2024 at 11 am at the Bucha Cemetery at 28, Antony Mikhailovsky Street.
