Additional peculiarities of the municipality:
Oleshky municipality, situated in Kherson region, possesses a distinctive environmental profile defined by the unique Oleshky Sands, Europe's second-largest desert landscape. This unique natural ecosystem is framed by the largest man-made forest in Europe, alongside diverse pine woodlands, grassy steppes, and dedicated ecological hiking routes designed for reserved conservation areas.
The region holds deep historical and archaeological significance, containing landmarks that span from the Stone and Bronze Ages to the late Middle Ages, including the site of the 1711 Oleshky Sich established by the Ukrainian Cossacks. This rich heritage and unique terrain historically provided the municipality with a strong foundation for eco-tourism, environmental research, and cultural preservation initiatives.
While the territory currently faces severe environmental and operational challenges due to war damage and occupation, the preservation of its ecological assets remains a vital long-term priority. For international development organisations, environmental funds, and recovery agencies, this ecologically vital municipality represents a critical area for future conservation planning, environmental monitoring, and sustainable habitat restoration.
